Zeelam : First of its kind

Hei guys,

It has been a very long time but it’s good to be back. So the last few days, Facebook has been lit with the “A Geeky Hallows’ Eve” and with it came a rather amusing post. It was about a book – Zeelam by Navin Weeraratne. And it said “The Sri Lankan Walking Dead” i guess and had a few figurines of zombies with sarong on it. That figurine got my attention rather than the book I would say. But nevertheless, I went straight to kindle store and bought myself a copy of “Zeelam” because I was impatient to get my hands on the copy on the 27th. You know the impatience you have when you are a kid, that kind of a feeling. It was about 11 in the night and I started reading. I had to sleep through work the next day if you are wondering. It was an amazing piece of literature to be honest. The book just felt like the zombie culture of the western countries got Sri Lankanized (that’s a word from today). It was incredibly fast paced but in a good way. It kept you turning pages or in my case tapping screens with enthusiasm and a want for more. The best bit about it are the Sri Lankan cliches and insider jokes. I mean lemon puff and marie biscuits got an honorary mention. Navin was brave enough to put the whole of Sri Lankan current affairs into a book of 114 pages (which was too little for a great story I would say). From the secret lives of our MP’s to our representatives abroad and their actions (emphasize on actions 😛 ), to the recent communal clash within Buddhist and Muslims in certain part of the countries. It was an interesting take by the author on the cause of the hatred between the two ethnic groups in the country and also signifying the worth of Muslims to Colombo as well as the country on the whole. I also appreciate Navin in spreading an awareness to dengue specially in Colombo and it’s suburbs through his work.

Once again the insider jokes and tit bits deserve to be read over and over again. I was overwhelmed to see that the city that we all are familiar with and its people being the hero of a Zombie story. I mean it has happened finally and I hope and expect more work of the same kind. And my personal request to Navin – Please keep on writing more of these awesome books. Would love to see a prequel or sequel to Zeelam in the near future. And the next time please make it huge :D.

So to all my geeks out their looking to get a hold of Zeelam, Visit “A Geeky Hallows’ Eve” at the Geek HQ on the 27th and pick up a free Sri Lankanized Zombie figurine with it.

Cheers,

Ghost

Conspiracies around us – 3

Hi people,
I am back here once again with the 3rd part of my Dan Brown Conspiracies. This time I’ll focus on the freemasons who are a real organisation that exists amongst us (Hope I am not kidnapped :P). So, as I mentioned in my earlier post regarding Illuminatis, freemasonary is a real organisation that has been conspired due to there many secrecy.
This organization is prevelant almost every where yet, they are independent. Rules and guidelines are present in a book from the 18th century which is practised till this date. this organisation can be traced back to the 15th century when they were formed by ordinary people. Earlier women where also a part of this organisation, but the regulations in the 18th century banned them from masonic lodges (more on this below.). In every place free masons are prevelant, there are masonic lodges. These lodges act as a meeting point. Even in Sri Lanka there are masonic lodges in Colombo, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. You have to meet certain categories if your to join them. When a person joins, he joins as a degree one free mason or else apprentice. The procedures of the organisation is not revealed to anyone outside the organisation. The highest degree is the 33rd degree known as master masons.
To join the free masons, you should believe in any one god, shouldn’t lend or borrow money and never discuss politics and religion within the lodge. The induction ceremonies are thought of demonic by many, yet some believe that because being a believer of god is a main requirement, anything demonic can be a rumor. A free mason would not be required to hide his association with the organisation yet he is required to keep the activities a secret which raises many questions. Well known free mason is George Washington, the founding father of United States who was a 33rd degree mason. He is potraited in may pictures with the attire of a master mason.
Each country or region will have a grand lodge which is like a main centre for all masonic activities within the country or region. Sri Lanka’s grand lodge is in Colombo. A simple google search would take u to their website which contains all the details.
The fact that their activities are kept a secret is what creates all these commotion around them. Some people which to be in the shadows so let them be.
That’s it for now people,
See you next time with my last part.
Cheers,
Jathu
